Overview
This case study focuses on how I applied REI’s existing design system to a novel content platform: a video streaming service. I was tasked with the visual design for the service in two formats: a remote-control based TV app and a mobile app.
Process
I began by conducting a competitive analysis which allowed me to see how the REI brand could establish a foothold within the existing streaming market.
I felt that I could bring inspiration by designing immersive prototypes that showcased how their brand identity could grow and elevate in this new digital platform.
I set out to design a flow that allows users to browse, search, and view full video information.
Sketching allowed me to see what elements were preferred by users and how I could incorporate REI’s existing brand guidelines into my multi-platform design.
Wireframing allowed me to test, gain user feedback, and iterate.
Insights
Users expect to see relevant content upon opening their app.
A more clear visual hierarchy is needed so that a user may find and play their content quickly and efficiently.

Design System Solution
With an established look and feel, REI’s system of reusable styles, components, and patterns afforded me time and resources when designing the final solution. Not only did it increase speed and consistency but it also gave me the ability to adapt in a way that was creative and innovative for this new platform.
